Sen. Lisa Murkowski has compiled a report named Indicators of American Energy Insecurity, comparing impacts of legislation on Alaska’s costs vs. Lower 48 costs.
Murkowski spokesman Robert Dillon said the comparison is important to keep in mind for other legislators whom may make policies that could affect Alaska’s costs.
Dillon: “Offers a metric for measuring the impacts, so if the EPA introduces a regulation or Congress is considering a bill and the sponsor says that it’s going to increase prices 3%, well this can show you that if you increase prices 3%, it pushes an X number of people below the poverty line because they then have to pa 3% more of their disposable income for energy because especially in Alaska, you don’t have a choice about buying energy.”
