The U.S. Senate passed the first funding bill for the Fiscal Year 2017 national budget, with some allocations for Kenai Peninsula harbors.
The Energy and Water Appropriations bill, which passed the Senate by a vote of 90-8, will fund Department of Energy programs and critical infrastructure projects by the Army Corps of Engineers.
Appropriations Committee member Senator Lisa Murkowski secured a number of provisions to address Alaska’s unique infrastructure by including an amendment in the bill that Senator Dan Sullivan also supported.
Local harbors included in the Army Corps. of Engineers Operations and Maintenance Funding include:
o $462,000 for Homer Harbor
o $591,000 for Lowell Creek Tunnel (Seward)
o $345,000 for Ninilchik Harbor
