Today the U.S. Senate Republican Congress announced committee assignments for Alaska’s senior Senator Lisa Murkowski and Senator-Elect Dan Sullivan.
Sen. Murkowski stated, “My seniority on Energy, Appropriations, Indian Affairs and HELP [Health, Education, Labor and Pensions] will be invaluable to the state.”
Sullivan was assigned to the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee; Armed Services Committee; Environment and Public Works Committee; and the Veterans Affairs’ Committee.
The senators’ assignments to those eight committees are now subject to ratification by the Republican Conference along with the full U.S. Senate.
Alaska lost one of its two seats on the Appropriations Committee, which some fear could complicate the upcoming economic impacts with reduced federal investment in Alaska.
