The annual Peninsula Winter Games Kenaitze Indian Tribe Native Youth Olympics Invitational begins today and all local youth are welcome to participate.
Kenaitze’s Yaghanen Program Coodinator Michael Bernard said the opening ceremony will begin at 5:45 this evening.
Bernard: “We’re encouraging the public not only to come out and watch but also to join in, we have left open a certain amount of spots in each event so that kids from the local area can come in, check it out and sign up and jump in there and try.”
The Yaghanen, which means safe place, Program is the tribe’s drug, alcohol and tobacco prevention program.
The Junior Division is for grades 1st-6th; the Senior Division for grades 7th-12th and events will be held through Sunday.
