A special invite event was held at the Regal Tikahtnu Cinemas in Anchorage Wednesday night for the showing of a new movie experience that’s set to change the way Alaskans go see movies. Regal Cinemas unveiled 4DX along with a special screening of Bullet Train, which hits theatres this weekend.

KSRM was given an opportunity to experience 4DX at this event and Cathii Van Riper, Marketing Project Coordinator Western Region for Regal Cinemas explained:
“It’s so many things. It captivates all of your senses. You’ve got scents coming at you, you’ve got wind, if there’s wind in the movie, you’re going to feel it. If there’s snow in the movie, you’re going to see it. It captivates everything. It makes you feel like you’re in the movie and I say that with experience because I’ve seen Top Gun: Maverick in there and I’m going to brag a little bit, it was incredible! I felt like the wingman.”
This new theatre technology enhances the on-screen visuals of action-packed blockbusters through special effects including motion-synchronized seats, wind, fog, rain, lightning, snow, bubble, vibration, and scents. From firsthand experience, it felt like you were in the movie.
Van Riper said the 4DX experience compares to exhibits seen at Universal Studios or Disney World:
“It’s definitely a thrill ride, if that’s what you’re seeking. It’s absolutely that. You will get that. You will leave, I leave the auditorium pumped. It’s great. It doesn’t matter what you watch in there, you’re going to leave pumped.”

She said these new experiences will incentivize Alaskans to come to Anchorage, rather than streaming the movie in your home movie theatre:
“100%. I mean, not only that, we also have another screen that we’ve added here as well called ScreenX and that’s a new 270-degree auditorium where your visual field is basically all your side walls and your front screens in select scenes of the movie and it’s incredible as well. So, we have these amenities here in Anchorage and we’re hoping that people come out to enjoy them.”

Bullet Train was the movie being shown at the Wednesday night special showing. It stars Brad Pitt and a whole cast of known actors/actresses. The movie is about five assassins aboard a fast-moving bullet train where they find out that their missions have something in common.
