Central Emergency Services took possession of two new Braun ambulances at the end of last week.

According to Deputy Chief Dan Grimes with CES, both units were placed into service this week.

Grimes: “We have two new ambulances out on the roads right now. The ambulances are a huge help. Our ambulances are the vehicle that gets the most mileage, they run on the most calls, we’re a medical heavy department and they just really get beat up quickly. So high road miles, high usage and this is a very welcome addition.”

Deputy Chief Grimes highlighted the new features of the ambulances.

Grimes: “A big plus is adding space for the fire fighters to store their gear, their PPE and their firefighting gear, which we didn’t have before. The other thing is just the ability for us to start standardizing our equipment”

The two units join several other Braun vehicles in service with Central Emergency Services. The ambulances will be housed at CES Station #1 in Soldonta and CES Station #3 in Sterling.

This delivery is part of equipment still to arrive for Central Emergency Services, including a Second Command Vehicle in the next few weeks and by late fall two in fire engines and a ladder truck. The Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly authorized the sale of $4.4 million in general obligation bonds to enable Central Emergency Services to purchase new equipment in 2016.
