New Reporting Requirements for Goat Hunters in Unit 6D

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game reports that registration permits for mountain goat hunting in Game Management Unit 6D are now available online at hunt.alaska.gov, or at ADFG offices in person in Soldotna, Anchorage, Cordova, Fairbanks, Glennallen, and Palmer.

 

Hunters should be aware that the reporting requirement for all Unit 6D goat hunts, except RG248, is now “within 3 days of kill.” Game Management Unit 6D includes the coastal communities of Prince William Sound from Whittier to Valdez, Chenega Bay, Tatitlek and Cordova.

 

 

Successful hunters must report within three days in person or by phone (907-424-3215). Hunters may also call 907-424-3215 with preliminary reports that provide their name, hunt area, date of kill, and the sex of the goat. This information can also be provided by satellite communication such as an inReach device via email to Samantha.renner@alaska.gov.

 

Goat hunting in Unit 6D remains a very popular activity with consistent hunting opportunity for hunters. ADF&G reports that as technology improves, it has become easier to get good in-season hunt data. Better and more timely communication will help ensure future hunting opportunity.

 

Additionally, the U.S. Department of Agriculture reminds subsistence users to plan ahead for the 2022 moose season and obtain your joint State/Federal moose permit online through the Alaska Department of Fish and Game at hunt.alaska.gov. Users make sure you have proper documentation prior to the opening of the season. Federal wildlife regulations can be obtained through the Department of the Interior.
