The fourth annual Homeless Connect took place at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex for the first time January 29.

Lisa Roberts with Homeless Connect said the new venue is more centrally located and felt cozier than prior years.

Roberts: “We have health services, we’ve got clothing, child care, the VA is here to help people, social security is here, we’ve got resume building, we’ve got food lots of food and the Kenaitze Indian Tribe is providing backpacks for people full of everything you need to help survive in the cold. They’re writing the resumes, they’re printing it a copy out for each individual and they’re also providing and putting it on a usb drive.”

Volunteer coordinator Diane Taylor mirrored the comments about the new venue, saying she sees the support growing each year.

Taylor: “Well every year we’ve had many many vendors I think about at least 50 vendors, tremendous donations. The support has been very consistent, I think that’s the best way to say it, there’s just more support built, more awareness, I think that’s what part of the effort is here, is to generate awareness of that it is an issue in our community, homelessness or the threat of being homeless.”
