A new version of a bill to decriminalize and regulate marijuana was introduced to the Senate Judiciary Committee February 9.
The 91 page bill would remove marijuana, hash, and hash oil from the state’s controlled substances statutes and add those to the statutes that deal with impairment and misconduct.
Governor Bill Walker’s administration will introduce another bill that creates a marijuana board this week which would be responsible for regulating the commercial marijuana industry.
That board would share resources with the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.
The bill was heard and held by the committee.
As of February 24, Alaskans 21 and over will be legally permitted to use recreational marijuana and possess up to an ounce.
After that initial day, the Alaskan legislature has nine months to solidify regulations for the commercial and retail side of the industry.
