Ninilchik Advances To 2A Championship With Solid Victory Over Petersburg

Two down and one to go!

The Ninilchik Wolverines will play for the ASAA 2A Boys State Basketball Championship, looking to repeat its 2022 state title; the Wolverines defeating the Petersburg Vikings in Friday night’s semi-final to advance to play the Tikigaq Harpooners in Saturday’s championship game.

 

Ninilchik 53 – Petersburg 42

The Wolverines and Vikings played even through the first half with Ninilchik holding a 21-19 lead at the half.  Great defense and ball control marked the entire game for both teams.

In the third quarter, the Wolverines built a 37-28 advantage on the strength of three, 3-point baskets, after not hitting a three in the first half.  Cole Moore topped all scorers with 26 points for the Wolverines and Jaylin Scott added 11 points.

 

2A State Championship pairing

The Wolverines will face the Tikigaq Harpooners for the 2A Boys state basketball championship on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at the Alaska Airlines Center.
