The first time through the five-team, peninsula basketball schedule for the Kenai Kardinal boys finds Kenai sitting at 4-0 and unbeaten against peninsula opponents. The Kardinal girls fall to 2-2; Nikiski girls advance to 2-1 and the Bulldog boys stand at 0-3. Thursday’s schedule featured all four 3A schools in action, with the SoHi Stars (4A) off for the night.
Nikiski Girls 46 – Seward 33
The Bulldog girls and Seahawk girls played even through the first half, tied at 22-22, then Nikiski pulled away with an 11-point, third quarter enroute to a 46-33 victory on Thursday in Seward. Lillian Carstens scored 20 points for Nikiski and Kinlee Jefferys added 8 points.
Nikiski Boys 51 – Seward 59
The Seward boys built a 32-24 lead at the half on the strength of a 10-point, first quarter by Tommy Cronin and recorded a 59-51 victory over the Bulldogs. Nikiski drew to within a basketball early in the fourth quarter; however, never took the lead over the Seahawks. Drew Handley lead the Bulldogs with 13 point and Austin Stafford added 12 points. Seward’s Sam Koster lead all scorers with 16 points.
Kenai Girls 20 – Homer 43
The Kardinal offense never got on track on Thursday as the Kenai girls manage only 20 points in a 43-20 loss to Homer. Kenai trailed 18-8 at the half, scoreless in the second quarter. Logan Satathite lead Kenai with 8 points.
Kenai Boys 54 – Homer 48
The Kenai boys handed Homer their first loss with a 54-48 Kardinal victory on Thursday as the Kenai boys improved to 4-0 against peninsula opponents. Kenai lead by seven at the half 26-19 and survived a 24-point, fourth quarter by Homer. Maison Dunham had 15 points to lead the Kardinals;, Jordan Kvasnikoff scored 14 and Jacob Kvasnikoff added 12 points. Clayton Beachy lead the Mariners with 16 points.
