The Nikiski Bulldogs closed-out play at the 2020 Husky Shootout in Kotzebue with the Nikiski girls defeating the Huskies in overtime for the tournament championship. The Bulldog boys downed host Kotzebue for the boys’ Husky Shootout title.
SoHi traveled to Grace Christian on Saturday for a pair of non-divisional games against the Grizzlies.
Nikiski Girls 42 – Grace 36
The Bulldogs rallied late in the fourth quarter and managed to send the championship game into overtime; Nikiski winning on late freethrows 42-36 over the Huskies.
Trailing 33-32 in the final seconds, Nikiski’s Lillian Carstens made one of two from the free throw line to send the game to overtime 33-33. In the final :30 seconds of the overtime, Nikiski converted four of six freethrows for the victory 42-36. Lillian Carstens scored 18 points including the final two freethrows with :04 seconds remaining in overtime.
Nikiski Boys 52 – Kotzebue 47
The Nikiski boys lead from start to finish in a 52-47 victory over Kotzebue on Saturday for the Husky Shootout title. Nikiski’s Noah Litke lead all scorers with 19 points. The Bulldogs defeated Homer on Friday 44-41. Nikiski opened with a 53-51 win over Nome on Thursday.
SoHi Girls 60 – Grace Christian 18
The SoHi girls defeated Grace 60-18 in non-divisional basketball on Saturday. The Stars opened with a 19-0 lead en route to a 42-point, running clock victory over the Grizzlies. Itu Tuisaula outscored the Grace team by 15 points recording a season-high 33 points.
SoHi Boys 58 – Grace 69
Jersey Truesdell’s 38 points were not enough for the Stars to knock-off the #2 ranked 3A basketball team as the Stars fell to Grace Christian 69-58.
