A Nikiski man was arrested on Thursday, Dec. 18, for a series of “terroristic threats” he made against employees at the Nikiski Pool, which included threats of physical harm and destruction of property.
According to charging documents, 50-year-old Nikiski resident John Sochor made a series of threats in voicemails left at the Nikiski Pool and the Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor’s Office.
In interviews with Alaska State Troopers, employees of the pool outlined in-person visits that Sochor had made prior to leaving the threatening voicemails, during which his actions led them to fear for their safety and well-being.
In one incident, on Dec. 11, an employee described Sochor as “loud and argumentative” and said he had announced he was carrying a concealed firearm by “lifting up his jacket as if he were going to brandish the firearm he was carrying.” At that time, charging documents also say Sochor was “loud and verbally aggressive” and even made “a statement about being able to shoot his dog in the head.”
According to court documents, after visits like these, employees told investigators that they would rate their fear level of Sochor doing them harm as an 8 out of 10 (“0 being no fear, 10 being the most fear ever experienced”).
After these visits, Sochor then left voicemails with both the Nikisi Pool (Dec. 13) and the Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor’s Office (Dec. 13 and 16). In one voicemail to the pool, court documents say Sochor threatened to “gun you motherf*****s down.” He also stated, “It’s your call. I will do all kinds of “f*****g fun stuff.”
In his message left with the mayor’s office on Dec. 16, Sochor also threatened property damage, stating, “That if I ever go back to the pool and get insulted or intentionally triggered, I want to burn the mothef*****s truck to ashes.”
When Troopers contacted Sochor on Dec. 18 to arrest him, he failed to immediately inform them that he was carrying a concealed firearm.
He was remanded to Wildwood Correctional Complex for the charges of Terroristic Threatening, Assault, and Misconduct Involving Weapons.
