Soldotna Major Crimes Unit, on March 1, began an investigation into George Napoka, age 19 of Nikiski, for sexual abuse of multiple minors.
Early in the morning on March 3, Napoka stole a Subaru Legacy and drove to Girdwood, turned around, and began driving back southbound on the Seward Highway.
At approximately 8:51 a.m., Napoka intentionally drove into an oncoming semi-truck pulling a trailer at mile 52 of the Seward Highway to attempt to commit suicide, according to the online trooper dispatch. According to troopers, Napoka crossed the center line of the highway and collided with a semi-truck. He was then flown by LifeMed to Anchorage with serious injuries, but was later released from the hospital.
According to troopers, the Anchorage Bureau of Investigation made contact with Napoka on April 1 at a residence in Anchorage and arrested him for:
- Indecent Exposure I
- Sexual Abuse of a Minor I (x 2)
- Sexual Abuse of a Minor II (x 2)
- Sexual Abuse of a Minor III (x 2)
- Attempted Sexual Abuse of a Minor II
- Vehicle Theft I (x 2)
- Criminal Mischief III (x 2)
- Attempted Murder II
- Attempted Assault I (x 2)
- Attempted Assault II (x 2)
- Assault III (x 2)
- Reckless Endangerment
- Reckless Driving
Napoka is being held at Anchorage Correctional Complex without bail. Anchorage Service Unit and Bethel AST also assisted in the investigation.
