Nikiski & SoHi Girls Open Play At Hardwood Classic

The Soldotna Stars survived a scare from Lumen Christi and the Nikiski Bulldog girls struggled against the Monroe Rams in first round basketball action at the 7th Annual Grace Hardwood Classic Basketball Tournament.

 

SoHi Girls 50 – Lumen Christi 42

A 24-point effort in the second half by SoHi senior Josie Sheridan pushed the Stars past the Lumen Christi Archangels 50-42.

SoHi trailed at the end of each of the first three quarters, as the Stars twice fell behind by seven points to Lumen.  Sheridan, who did not make a field goal in the first half; scored five, three-pointers, two field goals and went 5 of 6 from the freethrow line in the second half.  SoHi took the lead for good late in the final quarter.  The Stars advance to play Grace Christian in the 8:15 p.m. game on Friday night.

Nikiski Girls 24 – Monroe 58

The Bulldog offense managed only seven, first half points and the Monroe rams posted a 30-point second quarter to down Nikiski 58-24.

Nikiski trailed 7-4 after the first quarter; however, the Bulldogs were down 37-7 at the half.  Ashlynne Playle scored six points for Nikiski.  Monroe had eleven different players score and in the second half, the Ram starters played only the first 3:30 of the third quarter.

The Bulldogs play a Service High team in the 3 p.m. gam on Friday.
