Nine New COVID-19 Cases In Kenai Peninsula, State Hits Highest Active Count

The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reported 20 new positive COVID-19 cases in their Wednesday update, including nine in the Kenai Peninsula Borough. Five cases are in Homer, one in Nikiski, one in Seward, one in Soldotna, and one from a community of fewer than 1,000 residents in the Kenai Peninsula.

 

There were also seven cases in Anchorage, two in Eagle River, one in Wasilla, and one in Sitka.  DHSS also reported two more non-residents tested positive. To date, there have been 51 non-residents diagnosed in the state.

 

The number of active cases of COVID-19 in the Kenai Peninsula is 62. The number of active cases in the state of Alaska is now 190. That is the highest recorded count of active COVID-19 cases to date in Alaska. The next highest was April 2 when there were 188 recorded active cases.

 

A total of 67,720 tests have been administered in Alaska thus far, which includes 4,008 in the Kenai Peninsula.

 

These cases are reported using the state’s timetable of reporting counts: 12:00 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. on June 9.
