The Ninilchk boys prepared for the upcoming 2A Interior Conference basketball tournament with a regular season finale’ victory over the 3A Kenai Kardinals on Saturday at KCHS.
Ninilchik Boys 70 -Kenai 37
A season-capping, overpowering performance by the Ninilchik boys resulted in a 70-37 downing of the Kenai Kardinals with five Wolverines scoring in double figures and the Ninilchik defense holding Kenai to 13 points in the first half.
Landon Colburn lead the Wolverines with 23 points; Cole Moore and Lukah Kalugin scored 13; Jaylin Scott added 11 and Justin Trail scored 10. Kenai’s Wade James lead the Kardinals with 10 points.
Ninilchik completed a 21-0 run through the regular season including a sweep of 3A and 4A peninsula schools: Kenai (twice), SoHi, Homer and Seward (twice).
Interior Conference Tournament
The Wolverines open 2A Interior Conference tournament play on Thursday, March 10 at Tok. Ninilchik should receive a first-round bye and play a semi-final, first game on Thursday night. The tournament brackets should be available on Monday morning. A complete, seeded bracket will be available at radiokenai.com.
3A Peninsula Conference Tournament
The Kenai Kardinals will host the 3A Peninsula Conference basketball tournament with play beginning on Thursday, March 10th. The Kenai boys will be the #3 seed into the boys bracket and open with a 4 p.m. game against #2 seed Homer. The Nikiski Bulldogs and Seward Seahawks open the boys bracket at noon on Thursday and #1 seed Grace Christian plays the winner of the Nikiski/Seward game at 8 p.m. on Thursday.
The Grace girls are the #1 seed and will play at 6 p.m. at KCHS. The Kenai girls earn the #2 seed and will face #3 Seward in the tournament’s 2 p.m. game on Thursday at KCHS. The Nikiski girls open at 10 a.m. on Thursday against the Homer Mariners.
