Ninilchik Girls Advance To 1A State Basketball Consolation Final On Saturday

The 2018 ASAA 1A State Basketball Championships entered Friday’s action with the Ninilchik Wolverine girls matched against the Toksook Bay Islanders in a consolation bracket semi-final and the Nikolaevsk Warriors boys team facing Shishmaref in the championship bracket, loser’s round.

All 1A and 2A tournament games are played at the Alaska Airlines Center on the campus of UAA.

 

1A Girls Consolation Bracket: Ninilchik Wolverine Girls 41 – Toksook Bay 23 

The Wolverines won their second-straight contest at the 1A state tournament downing Toksook Bay 41-23.  The victory advances the Wolverine girls to the consolation bracket’s final game on Saturday, scheduled for 11:00 a.m.

DeeAnn White lead the Wolverines with 25 points and 22 rebounds.  The Ninilchik defense held Toksook Bay to a seven field goals and 0 for 12 from the three point line.

Ninilchik faces Kake in the final consolation game on Saturday with an opportunity to finish tournament play with three, straight wins.

 

1A Boys Winner’s Bracket: Shishmaref  Northern Lights 55 – Nikolaevsk Warriors 52

The Nikolaevsk Warrior boys closed-out tournament play with a loss to the Shishmaref Northern Lights 55-52  on Friday in the tournament’s championship bracket loser’s round.

The game was tied 26-26 at the half and the Northern Lights lead 43-40 after three quarters.

Michael Trail lead the Warriors with 15 points and Kalenik Molodih added 14 points.
