March Madness Alaska tipped-off for 3A and 4a basketball with the Northern Lights Conference and Southcentral Conference Basketball tournaments. Game results updated throughout the tournament weekend.
Northern Lights Conference Basketball Tournament
The 2016 Northern Lights Conference Basketball Tournament crowned NLC champions, runner-ups and awarded state tournament berths to the top two team, both boys and girls.
The Wasilla girls downed Colony 49-35 for the NLC girls championship. The Palmer boys held-off #1 seed Wasilla 55-47 for the boys NLC title. All four teams in the championship final qualify to the 4A stte basketball tournament which begins March 24th.
Northern Lights Conference Saturday Round
Girls 3rd Place: SoHi girls 37 – Palmer 50
..The Lady Stars raced to a 17-4 lead after one quarter; however, Palmer chipped-away at the lead and rallied for a 50-37 victory. Lindsey Wong lead the Stars with 13 points.
Boys 3rd Place: Kenai boys 56 – Colony 63
..The Kardinals battled throughout but came up short against Colony, Keith Ivy led Kenai with 25 points.

Boys Championship: Palmer 55 – Wasilla 47

Kenai girls lead 12-10 at the half before the Stars took a 21-19 lead after three quarters. Lindsey Wong lead the Stars with 12 points.
Kenai Boys 49 – SoHi Boys 32
The Kenai boys outscored SoHi 35 to 23 in the second half en route to a 49-32 first round victory. Josh Jackman lead Kenai with 18 points.

Southcentral Conference Basketball Tournament
The 2016 South-central Conference Basketball Tournament crowned champions, runner-ups and awarded state tournament berths to the top two team, both boys and girls.
One 3A at-large state berth will be determined following all regional tournaments using the WPI (winning percentage index). The Nikiski boys, with a third place finish and three tournament wins, may have done enough for the lone at-large bid which will be announced on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at www.asaa.org.
