The City of Kenai’s first year of allowing fireworks for New Years saw no injuries from the decorative explosives according to the fire department.
Kenai Fire Marshall Tommy Carver says he thinks many people believed that fireworks were allowed peninsula wide.
Carver: “This lift on ban of fireworks applied only to the city limits of Kenai, and it was only for the 31st and the 1st.”
He says many residents just outside of city limits were also shooting off fireworks and just wanted to clarify that only the City of Kenai lifted the fireworks ban.
