Nominations Open For Homer Electric Association Board Of Directors

Nominations are open for Homer Electric Association’s board of directors, with several seats accessible to interested members. HEA directors are elected by district, with members voting only for the director in their respective district.  The cooperative’s board consists of nine directors, three from each of the Kenai Peninsula service area districts.

 

Bruce Shelley, HEA Director of Member Relations, spoke to KSRM regarding the election process and the seats up for grabs this year: “Please stop by either the Homer or the Kenai [HEA] office, or visit our website. You can get a candidacy package in your hands. Fill that out. With that, you need to get at least fifteen signatures. Those signatures must come from the district that you reside in. I always recommend that you get more than fifteen, just in case you don’t actually get a member. They’re due back to us on Friday, March 5 at 5:00 p.m.“

 

He continued: “Those seats that are available this year are District 1, which is Kenai / Nikiski / parts of Soldotna. That seat is currently held by Director David Thomas, and he has termed out, so that is a seat that is wide open. In District 2, which is Soldotna / Sterling / Kasilof area, that seat is held by Director Dave Carey. He also is terming out, so that is wide open. District 3 is Kasilof / Homer / Seldovia area, and that is currently held by Director Roy Champagne.”

 

Completed packets can be submitted at either the Kenai or Homer HEA offices.  Ballots will be mailed to HEA members on April 6 and the results announced at the Virtual Annual Meeting of the members on May 6.
