Nordic Ski Opens Competitive Season At Split Venues

The Nordic Ski season for peninsula high school skiers opens with competition on Saturday at split venues under strict mitigation plans (see link below) which will allow for outdoor sports competitions on the peninsula trails.

 

Kenai vs Seward   Saturday, January 16th    Kenai Municipal Golf Course

The Kenai Kardinals will host Seward in a cross-country ski event on Saturday, January 16th with a course established on the Kenai Municipal Golf Course.  The course is groomed and maintained with the help of the City of Kenai Parks and Recreation Department.

Race Details

o   There will not be a mass start instead skiers will be starting on one minute interval times.

o   Seward and Kenai will be skiing at different times during the day with times combined at the end of the event.

o    With Covid-19 restrictions, the race will not be open to the general public at large instead each racer will get two spectators

o   Masks are required for participants and spectators.

Race Times

Kenai :

Team ski-through between 10:15 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

11:00 a.m  Kenai Team Individual Start: one minute intervals           Completed by 11:45 a.m.

Seward:

Team ski-through between 11:15 and Noon

Noon  Seward Team Individual Start: one minute intervals           Completed by 12:45 p.m.

 

SoHi @ Homer     Saturday, January 16th     Ohlson Mountain Course

Soldotna cross country skiers will compete against the Homer Mariners on the trails at Ohlson Mountain in Homer.

Event start time is scheduled for Noon.  Race mitigation plans will be followed
