North Star Conference Hockey Tournament Opens Thursday At SRSC

The 2018 North Star Conference Hockey Championships brackets are set with tournament games scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, February 1-3 at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex.

 

The Kenai Kardinals (2-8) will face the Palmer Moose (3-6-1) in the tournament’s first game on Thursday with the game time scheduled for 5 p.m.  The Kardinals defeated SoHi 6-5 in overtime to close the regular season; Palmer tied Wasilla 6-6 in its season finale’.

The Soldotna Stars (1-9) face Wasilla in the second contest on Thursday.

Colony (9-1) and Homer (8-2) have first-round byes in the NSC hockey tournament as the top two seeds.

 

All five tournament games will be broadcast on ESPN 1140AM and www.radiokenai.com

Division II Hockey State Tournament

The 2018 ASAA Division II Hockey State Championships begin play on Thursday at the Big Lake Rec Center with a six-team, bracketed format.

Houston and Monroe earn first-round byes, finishing first and second in conference play.  Seeding between the Hawks and Rams required a fifth tiebreaker to determine seeds.

The Monroe Rams are the defending 2017 Division II champions.  Houston and Monroe have met in the last three championship games and in four of the last five hockey state championship games.

#3 Glennallen vs #6 Hutchison     7:30 p.m.

#5 Service defeats Chugiak 8-1

South plays Service in a 6:30 p.m. Thursday semifinal game at Ben Boeke Ice Arena. Dimond will meet West at 7:15 p.m. at the McDonald Center.
