The Wasilla Warriors complete the sweep with both the Warrior girls and Warrior boys winning the Northern Lights Conference basketball championships, both teams defeating rival Colony in the championship games.
The Kenai girls and Soldotna boys both posted losses to the Palmer Moose in the tournament’s third-place games.
The Wasilla girls and boys and the Colony girls and boys earn automatic berths to the upcoming 2018 ASAA 4A State Basketball Championships scheduled for March 22-24 at the Alaska Airlines Center at UAA.
Kenai Girls 48 – Palmer 53
The Kenai Kardinal girls completed their run through the NLC tournament with a 53-48 loss to the Palmer Moose in the third-place game on Saturday.
Kenai battled Palmer to a 40-40 tie through three quarters before the Moose outscored Kenai 13-8 in the final quarter. Brooke Satathite lead the Kardinals with 14 points and 16 rebounds; Lexi Carrasco added 10 points for Kenai.
SoHi Boys 27 – Palmer 32
The Star boys battled Palmer evenly through 31 1/2 minutes, only to allow the game winning basket with :30 seconds remaining in the boys third-place contest; Palmer downs SoHi 32-27.
Tied at 27 apiece with under a minute remaining, Palmer worked the ball for a 3-point basket at the :30 second mark; SoHi turns-over the basketball and the Moose finish with a pair of free throws.
Girls Championship Game: Wasilla Girls 55 – Colony 28
Wasilla dominated Colony 55-28 in the girls championship game, winning a fourth straight NLC title. Wasilla lead 30-12 after one half and was lead by Azlynn Brandenburg’s 17 points.
Boys Championship Game: Wasilla Boys 48 – Colony 39
Wasilla recovered from a slow start to rally for the NLC boys championship downing Colony 48-39. Colony lead early 15-6 after one quarter; Wasilla lead 22-21 at the half.
