The Northern Lights Conference Basketball Tournament will crown champions and determine third place, state at-large candidates in Saturday’s tournament games at Colony High School.
Girls 3rd Place Game: SoHi 45 – Wasilla 53
The Soldotna girls faded in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter, allowing an 8-0 run by the Wasilla Warriors to break a 45-45 tie down the stretch, as Wasilla downs SoHi 53-45 for third place in the Northern Lights Conference Tournament.
Wasilla lead 21-20 at the half and the SoHi girls built a 36-29 lead after three quarters. SoHi extended to a 10-point lead early in the fourth quarter; however, Wasilla closed the gap and tied the game at 45-45. From there the Warriors closed out finishing a 24-point fourth quarter with eight-straight points and closing the quarter with 8 of 10 freethrow shooting. The Lady Stars were 2 of 8 from the line down the stretch.
Drysta Crosby Schneider lead the Stars with 17 points and Josie Sheridan added 13 points. Wasilla’s Bella Hayes lead the Warriors with 16 points.
Wasilla and SoHi will be the NLC’s two at-large candidates for the ASAA 4A state tournament. At-large selections will be announced on Sunday as part of the ASAA March Madness Selection Show.
Boys Play-In Game: Kodiak 44 – SoHi 41
The Kodiak boys and SoHi boys battled to the final buzzer with Kodiak trailing 39-38 to the Stars into the final two minutes, then the Bears pulling ahead for a 44-41 victory. The Stars trailed by 12 ( 32-20) entering the final quarter as SoHi hit five, three pointers, including three for Ethan Sewell and a pair for Jakob Brown, to draw even with the Bears. Ethan Sewell lead the Stars with 21 points; Ian Rocheleau topped the Bears with 13 points.

Boys Championship Colony 59 – Wasilla 36 Colony wins NLC
