Northern Lights Conference Wrestling Qualifies 11 Stars & 3 Kards To 4A State Championships

The Soldotna Stars and Kenai Kardinals, competing in the 2016 Northern Lights Conference Wrestling Tournament, qualified a combined 14 wrestlers to the upcoming ASAA 4A State Wrestling Championships based on performances at the NLC tournament held at KCHS.  Colony won the boys team title.

Soldotna High School

The Soldotna wrestling program qualifies 11 wrestlers, with nine males in eight different weight classes and a pair of weight class champions in the female division.

SoHi male wrestlers earned runner-up finishes in four divisions.  Logan Craig finished second at 98 pounds; Gideon Hutchison, at 113 pounds, fell in the final for a second place; Bechler Metcalf was runner-up at 152 pounds; and Brenner Furlong placed second at 182 pounds.

Other SoHi state qualifiers include: Travis Howell, 3rd at 132 pounds; Abraham Van Hout, 4th at 170 pounds; Austin Schrader, 5th at 170 pounds; Aaron Faletoi, 4th at 220 pounds; and Austin Reeves, 5th at 285 pounds.

SoHi’s Vydell Baker, at 132 pounds, and Amanda Wylie, at 145 pounds, won conference championships and advance to the 2016 ASAA Girls Wrestling Championships.  Both girls are freshman at Soldotna High School.

Kenai Central High School

The Kardinals advance three wrestlers to the state tournament.  Keyshawn McEnerney placed 4th overall in the 152 pound weight class.  Tyler Vaughn finished 3rd at 120 pounds; and Jacob Anderson placed 3rd at 138 pounds.
