The final regular season wrestling competition, the North/South Tournament, re-affirmed the dominance of the Colony Knights in Division I wrestling, and spotlighted the Division II Homer Mariners talent; as teams ready for the upcoming conference tournaments and state competitions.
The seven team, round robin format featured five Division I teams and two Division II: Order of Finish- Colony, Wasilla, Homer, SoHi, Palmer, Kenai and Nikiski
The Colony Knights topped the field at the North/South, held at Soldotna Prep School, winning the team title and claiming six individual weight class champions. The Homer Mariners recorded four individual champions.
Soldotna’s Gideon Hutchison topped the 120-pound weight class for SoHi’s only individual champion. Bechler Metcalf finished second at 152 pounds and Melvin Lloyd took third at 285 pounds.
Kenai’s Byron Dunham won the 195 pound individual title. At 220 pounds, Seth Kruse finished second overall; Jacob Grant also finished second in the 285-pound division.
Five weight-class champions were crowned in the girls division at the North/South wrestling tournament, two champions from the central peninsula.
SoHi’s Amanda Wylie earned first place in the 145 pound division. Nikiski’s Chloe Grogan topped the 160-pound division.
