The National Rifle Association has said it does not plan to endorse any candidates in Alaska’s U.S. Senate race.

In recent filings the NRA disclosed ad buys in several prominent Senate races in other states.

The organization’s spokesman Andrew Arulanandam said the NRA prefers not to disclose where it plans to run ads until it has to.

He said NRA won’t be making an endorsement in Alaska’s race after the NRA gave Sen. Mark Begich(D) an A-minus rating and Begich’s opponent Dan Sullivan(R) an A-q. The “q” means qualified, a distinction for candidates without voting records.

Had Begich not voted for President Barack Obama’s Supreme Court, Arulanandam said the Alaskan Senator would have recieved a higher grade because on gun issue votes, Begich stood with NRA members  “100 percent of the time.”

On Tuesday the NRA issued a statement endorsing incumbent Gov. Sean Parnell in his current race, saying he “has made it a top priority to protect and promote the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Alaskans.”
