NSC Hockey Valley Swing Ends With Change At Top Of The Standings

All six teams in the North Star Conference for high school hockey battled in the Valley to open the final month of the high school hockey season; Kenai, Soldotna and Homer challenging Valley opponents Colony, Palmer and Wasilla.

 

North Star Conference Standings

The Colony Knight and Wasilla Warriors sweep the weekend; Colony moves into first place in the North Star Conference with a 7-1 record.

The Homer Mariners opened the week in first place at 5-0.  Homer will now regroup after dropping games to Colony and Wasilla.  The Mariners stand at 5-2 and the Warriors at 6-2 in conference play.

The Soldotna Stars (1-7) opened with a 3-1 victory over Palmer recording the Stars first conference victory.  Kenai (1-7) finishes Valley play without a victory.

Saturday, January 13

SoHi 1 – Colony 6 

SoHI allow two goals in each period to the Colony Knights.  The Stars scored a lone goal by Alex Montague.  SoHi goalie Corbin Wirz turned away 35 of 41 shots.

Kenai 1 – Wasilla 4 

The Kardinals allow four power-play goals to the Warriors in a 4-1 NSC loss.  Josh Tree recorded 49 saves and Levi Mese scored the Kards lone goal.

Friday, January 12

SoHi 0 –  Wasilla 9  Porter Schachle lead Wasilla with three goals and two assists

Kenai 4 – Palmer 5 OT  

Kenai tied the contest in the third period only to lose in overtime 5-4 to Palmer.  Palmer opened with a 3-0 lead in the first; Kenai tied the game 4-4 in the second period.  Kardinal goals were recorded by Nate Beiser, Levi Mese, Matt Hagel and Jakob O’Brien.  

Thursday, January 11

SoHi 3 – Palmer 1

…SoHi records first NSC victory with 3-1 win over Palmer.  Dylan Walton, Jose Montague and Wyatt Medcoff scored goals for SoHi.

Kenai 1 – Colony 12    

…Kenai’s Levi Mese scored the lone goal for the Kardinals in a 12-1 loss to the Knights.
