The National Weather Services in Anchorage is upgrading it’s Weather Radio system which delivers emergency messages to the Kenai Peninsula.

Dan Nelson: “So as a result of that, some people may hear some tests over the tsunami warning systems if they’re in the Homer, Seward, or Kachemak Bay areas.”

Dan Nelson with the Kenai Peninsula Borough’s Office of Emergency Management said the siren system will announce that it is a test.

Nelson: “That will occur today, on Thursday, September 24, between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm and it may happen more than once. People should be alert for the test message that they may hear and that’s just an upgrade to the system.”

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association manages the NWS which says this test period runs through December 17th.

The weather radio transmitters may experience brief outages through  that time as equipment is installed and upgrades are implemented.
