The borough’s Office of Emergency Management will be offering incident command training in December.
Program manager Dan Nelson says the Incident Command Systems 300 class is designed for anyone functioning in emergency response or management capacity with public or private organizations.
Nelson: “Folks in government agencies, non-profits such as Red Cross or others who might be involved in response, and our industry partners like oil and gas, energy, and stuff like that. All of those audiences are invited to attend, we want to get a good mix of agencies and different representations so that we can have a good class working together and forming relationships before they’re needed in a response.”
The system has been used for both the Card Street and Funny River fires, it is universal training for the United States.
Nelson: “All agencies such as Forestry in our fires the last two years, as well as the borough, state, federal and local cities all use the same system. By taking this training and having everybody go through it we’re all on the same page.”
The training does require some prerequisite online courses before applicants register for the class.

The deadline for class registration is November 23 and the training will be 8:30 am – 5:00 pm daily from December 14-16 at the Soldotna Emergency Response Center on Wilson Lane.
