Oil and Marijuana on Chamber Lunch Agendas Next Week

Multiple chamber of commerce luncheons next week will cover topics like oil and gas as well as the commercial marijuana industry.

Kenai Chamber of Commerce President Johna Beech…

Beech: “On the 15th we’ll do a joint luncheon over in Soldotna, we’ll be hearing from Larry Persily who’s the oil and gas rep with the Kenai Peninsula Borough, and John Hendrix who is the chief oil and gas adviser to the governor of Alaska. If you’re interested in RSVPing for that call 262-9814. Then November 16th we’ll be back here at the Kenai Visitors Center, we’ll be hearing from Scott Bloom who is the City Attorney for the City of Kenai and he’ll be talking about commercial marijuana in Kenai.”

John Hendrix visited Kenai in October and spoke with KSRM’s Merrill Sikorski about Alaska’s oil situation…

Hendrix: “Right now we are really low when it comes to our wealth meter when it comes to oil but we have a lot of opportunities. Calais is out there, Armstrong is out there, ConocoPhillips is out there, BP, Hilcorp, all these guys are out there looking for new possibilities and we need to work with them and help them. I think the biggest thing that we could do outside of tax credits is fix the regulatory part of permitting.”

At Tuesday’s luncheon, City Attorney Scott Bloom says he’ll review state laws, city regulations, zoning issues, and current developments in the city and borough regarding commercial marijuana.

RSVPs for the November 16 lunch can be placed by calling 283-1991.
