Oil Production Decline Continues

After the August 19 election results for ballot measure one, it looks like Senate Bill 21 will remain.

Although many say we have not seen an effect from Senate Bill 21 as it is still too soon, what we have seen is continued oil decline.

Alaska’s North Slope crude oil production for the Trans-Alaska Pipeline was down 16% from June and a 7.5% drop was seen in May. The largest month to month drop in production was 35.3% at the British Patroleum Exploration Alaska’s Prudhoe Bay oil field.

BP Spokeswoman Dawn Patience said the drop was due to planned maintenance or “turnaround” staggered from Jun to September.

Crude oil flowing in the Trans-Alaska Pipeline has been declining for around 25 years and is now far less than half of the first few years the pipeline was in service.
