The Peninsula Oilers swept the Anchorage Glacier Pilots this weekend at Coral Seymour Memorial Park.
Before Saturday’s game, the Peninsula Oilers dedicated the Oilers Broadcast booth after Coach Dan Gensel.
Dan Gensel passed away suddenly in May 2023. For over a decade, Gensel was the voice of the Peninsula Oilers.
Dan Gensel’s family members attended the dedication, and clips of Coach were played in the ballpark of his play-by-play over the years of the Peninsula Oilers.
Saturday’s game was a defense showing until the Oilers scored in the sixth inning. Colin Robson singled, RBI; Petey Soto scored, making the score 1 – 0 Oilers. Then, in the eighth inning, it was a repeat of the sixth inning. Colin Robson singled, RBI; Petey Soto scored. Final 2 – 0 Oilers win.
Sunday was an offense showing, as the Oilers scored first in the third inning. Eddie Leon walked, RBI; Braden Smith advanced to second; Brock Wirthgen advanced to third; Cody New scored. Andrew Alva flew out to the left field, SAC, RBI; Brock Wirthgen scored, tying the game at 2 – 2.
In the fifth inning, Andrew Sullivan doubled, RBI; Eddie Leon scored.
In the sixth, Andrew Alva hit by pitch, RBI; Braden Smith advanced to second; Cody New advanced to third; Zac Farris scored. Then in the seventh, Zac Farris doubled, RBI; Cole Dawson scored, making the score 2 – 5 Oilers.
In the eighth inning, the bats came alive for the Oilers; Cole Dawson singled, RBI; Aidan Sullivan advanced to second; Andrew Alva advanced to third; Braden Smith scored. Colin Robson walked, RBI; Cole Dawson advanced to second; Aidan Sullivan advanced to third; Andrew Alva scored. Zac Farris grounded out to first base unassisted, SAC, RBI; Aidan Sullivan scored. Cody New singled, 2 RBI; Colin Robson scored; Cole Dawson scored, making the score 10 – 2.
The Pilots would score one more in the ninth, Luke Heefner singled, RBI; Dylan Marx advanced to third; Bo Rico scored, unearned.
Final: Oilers 10 – Pilots 3.
