The Oilers won their 2nd game in a row with an exciting 6-5 win over the Michigan Monarchs Friday evening, June 30.
Playing under a rare display of dazzling sunshine, the Oilers enjoyed a 5-run 3rd inning. RBI singles by Ben Griffin and Theo Forshay were supplemented Josiah Chavez’s walk and by Ryson Ujimori’s smash to first baseman J.J. Arbini. Arbini booted the hot grounder, enabling Griffin and Josiah Chavez to score. Ujimori then worked himself into an intentional run-down between 1st and 2nd base that allowed Forshay to score a 5th run.
But the Monarchs responded with 5 of their own in the 6th. Starting pitcher Sam Silversmith had kept the Monarchs to just 2 hits until then. The big blow was Cale Vinson’s 2-run double.
In the Oiler 8th, Ujimori worked a 1-out walk and then advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch. A ground out got him to 3rd when Drewbie Pinkston delivered the game-winning RBI with an opposite field blooper to Left, scoring Ujimori.
Ryne Palmer took the win in relief with 3 scoreless innings.
All Oiler home games begin at 6:00 pm, except Sundays at 2:00 pm, and are heard on ESPN 1140 AM, 96.9 FM, online at radiokenai.com.
