Oilers Defense Sets Tone For 5-1 Victory Over Bucs

An extremely rare, almost unheard-of, first-inning triple play turned by the Peninsula Oilers set the tone for a 5-1 victory for the Oilers over the Anchorage Bucs on Tuesday at Mulcahy Park in Anchorage.

Peninsula Oilers 5  – Anchorage Bucs 1

In Alaska Baseball League action, the Peninsula Oilers sink the Anchorage Bucs with solid defense and a five-run effort by the offense.

The game opened with the Oilers turning a triple play in the bottom of the first inning, avoiding a big inning for the Bucs.  With the bases-loaded for the Bucs, Anchorage’s Mason Morenco hit a ground ball to Oilers short stop Trey Becker who turned the 6-4-3 double-play–then, first baseman Dalton Bowling gunned-down the Bucs’ Alex Champaigne at the plate to complete the triple play.

The Oilers scored one run in the fourth inning, plating Cole Jordan on a Casey Burnham RBI single.  The Oilers added three runs in the sixth inning with Burnham receiving an RBI walk and Graiden West driving in two runs with a single.  The Bucs scored a single run in the eighth and the Oilers plated Shimashita on an RBI single by West.  Final Score: Oilers 5, Bucs 1

The Oilers recorded 5 runs on six hits; the Bucs total one run on seven hits.

Oiler starter Carson Seeman goes five innings allowing no runs on three hits for the win.  James Shimashita records the save with two innings on the mound.

The Oilers improve to 2-3 in ABL play, both wins against the Bucs.  The Anchorage Bucs drop to 3-4 in the ABL.
