Oilers Drop Doubleheader To Chinooks: Pitchers Fail To Hold Leads

The Peninsula Oilers scored first in each of Sunday’s games; however, failed to contain the Chinook’s bats in a pair of losses in doubleheader action at Chugiak-Eagle River.

 

Chinooks 4 – Oilers 3  Game One

Josh Congdon drove in the game’s first run in the second inning, scoring Jeremy Conant with an RBI single.  The Chinooks scored three runs in the fourth for a 3-1 advantage.  The Oilers tied the game at 3-3 with a pair of runs in the fourth; only to allow what will be the winning run in the bottom of the inning.

Oilers starter Devin Hayes allowed three runs, one earned, in 4 1/3 innings.

 

Chinooks 7 – Oilers 6   Game Two

The Peninsula Oilers jumped-out to a 4-0 lead with two runs in the first, a run in the second and a run in the third.  The Chinooks rallied with two in the third, four runs in the fourth and a run in the fifth for a 7-4 lead.

 

Matt Acosta came to the plate in the top of the seventh inning with bases-loaded and two out and delivered an RBI single to draw the Oilers to within two runs at 7-5.  Ben Wanger, with two outs and two strikes, fouled-off four straight pitches; then Kellen Strahm scored on a wild pitch to draw the Oilers to within a run.  Wanger strikes out for the final out with two runs in scoring position.

Final Score: Chinooks 7 – Oilers 6

The Oilers allow four, unearned runs for the game.  Starter Kyle Lucke allowed two earned runs, five runs total, on just two hits on 3 1/3 innings.

 

Monday’s Game Schedule

The Oilers face the Anchorage Bucs on Monday in ABL action.  Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.at Mulcahy Park with the ESPN 1140AM Sweeney’s Pre-Game Show beginning at 6:40 p.m. Monday.
