Oilers Drop Showcase Games: Return For 10-Game Homestand Beginning Tuesday

The Alaska Baseball League Scouts Showcase weekend usually highlights ABL talent with teams playing modified, seven inning games at Mulcahy Park on Friday and Saturday; followed by the ABL Home Run Derby and All-Star Game on Sunday.

 

For the 2021 ABL season, few highlights and no home run derby and no ABL All-Star Game.

 

The Peninsula Oilers dropped both showcase games with a 9-2 loss to the Anchorage Bucs and a 1-0 loss to the Mat-Su Miners.

 

Anchorage Bucs 9 – Oilers 2

The Peninsula Oilers opened with a two-run home run by John Olmstead for a 2-0 lead; however, the Bucs scored nine, unanswered runs in the seven inning 9-2 win.

 

Mat-Su Miners 1 – Oilers 0

Oilers starting pitcher Andre Orselli threw six, no-hit innings against the league-leading Mat-Su Miners on Saturday; only to loss 1-0 to the Mat-Su Miners in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Orselli kept the Oilers in the game with no run support; the Oilers bats collecting five hits and stranding seven runners in seven innings.

In the seventh inning, the Miners loaded the bases and drove-in the game’s only run with a walk-off single with one out.

 

The Oilers return to Coral Seymour Memorial Park on Tuesday for a five-game series against the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks.  Game time on Tuesday is scheduled for 7 p.m.
