The Peninsula Oilers defense, which has been steady throughout the early Alaska Baseball League, stumbled on Wednesday night in Chugiak with the Oilers committing three costly errors and falling 7-1 to the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks.

Both teams collected nine hits on the night; the Chinooks making the most of their opportunities by plating a pair of runs in the first inning and a pair of unearned runs in the third inning.

For the Oilers, a lone run in the second inning came on an RBI single by Dalton Bowling scoring Chase Katafias.  Oilers starter Mason Kokodynski allowed four runs, only two earned, in three innings.  Mose Hayes, from Homer Alaska, pitched five innings and allowed three runs on four hits.

The Oilers stand at 2-4 in the ABL;  the Chinooks improve to 3-4.  The Oilers continue their season-opening, 14-game road trip at Lee Jordan Field on Thursday against the Chinooks.

Thursday’s game will be broadcast on KSRM 920AM and streamed live at radiokenai.com on the KSRM 920AM link.
