With an early season, short roster the Peninsula Oilers called on four position players to take to the mound against the Alaska Baseball League leading Mat-Su Miners on Monday night. The Oilers fall to the Miners 8-4 in ABL play, as the Miners improve to 6-1 and the Oilers drop to 1-4. Help is on the horizon for the Oilers with more players scheduled to arrive this week; until then, the Oilers will make the best of the lineup of players available.
Oilers 4 – Miners 8
The Oilers open the game with a run in the first inning and a pair of runs in the second for a 3-0 lead. Starting pitcher Josh Congdon threw three, scoreless and hitless innings to open the contest.
The Miners exploded for six runs on seven hits and two Oilers errors in the top of the fourth inning and the Oilers played catch-up from then on. For the game, The Miners scored eight runs on 10 hits and the Oilers plated four runs on seven hits.
The Oilers and Miners close the first home stand on Tuesday Night with Little League Baseball Night. All little leaguer players in uniform are admitted free. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
The Oilers open a seven games in five days road trip on Thursday, June 15th in Anchorage against the Anchorage Bucs.
