Oilers starting pitcher Liam Roacha allowed only three hits in seven innings; dramatically, the two hits were solo home runs for the Mat-Su Miners as the Miners downed the Oilers 2-1 in Alaska Baseball League action at Herman Brothers Park in Palmer on Thursday.

The Mat-Su Miners plated a lone run in the first inning on a home run by Casey Rocher and a single run in the seventh inning on a home run by Nick Cirelle.

The Oilers offense stranded 11 runners and missed scoring opportunities in the second and fourth inning.  In the fourth, Andrew Sojka was picked-off at second base with no outs, followed on the next pitch by a double by Bryce March.  A double-play ended the threat in the fourth.  The Oilers scored in the ninth on a triple by Sojka and an RBI for John Hanley.

The Peninsula Oilers stand at 0-2 through two games in the ABL.

Friday, the Oilers return to Mulcahy Park in Anchorage to face the Anchorage Bucs at 7:00 p.m. as the Oilers continue their eight-game road swing.
