Oilers Ground Pilots In Doubleheader

The Peninsula Oilers swept the Anchorage Glacier Pilots 2-0 and 4-3 in Alaska Baseball League action at Mulcahy Park in Anchorage on Monday.  The Oilers knock-off the league leading Pilots and improve to 13-18 in the ABL.

 

Oilers 2 – Glacier Pilots 0

The Peninsula Oilers shut-out the Anchorage Glacier Pilots 2-0 in the first game of the doubleheader.

A lead-off triple by Dalton Bowling and a ground ball RBI opened the scoring for the Oilers in the second inning.  The Oilers generated an insurance run in the sixth inning with a lead-off walk for Trey Becker, a pair of stolen bases for Becker and a sacrifice fly by James Shimashita.  Nick Welch pitched five scoreless innings for the win: Drake Frize closed with two innings for the save.

 

Oilers 4 – Pilots 3  8 Innings

The Peninsula Oilers completed a two-game sweep with a 4-3 extra-inning victory.

The Pilots opened with a solo home run by Ali Camarillo.

A three-run, third inning pushed the Oilers to a 3-1 lead over the Pilots.  Chase Katafias singled and scored on a Casey Burnham RBI triple.  Trey Becker scored Burnham with an RBI single and Becker scored on a steal of home.

The Glacier Pilots tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth inning scoring two runs on a two-out walk with a pair of singles.

Tied after seven innings, the eighth for the Oilers began with Casey Burnham on second base (extra innings rule).  Ethan Firestone drove home Burnham on a single to left center, taking a 4-3 lead.

The Pilots also started with a runner, Ali Camarillo, at second in the bottom of the eighth inning.  In a run-down, Camarillo was thrown-out at the plate for the second out.  A ground-out ended the game.  James Shimashita earns the win with two scoreless innings in relief.  Oilers win 4-3 and sweep the league-leading Pilots.

 

The Peninsula Oilers are off on Tuesday and Wednesday and open the final regular season home series on Thursday, July 21st against the Anchorage Bucs at Coral Seymour Memorial Park.  Game time scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday.
