Oilers Hand Miners ABL Victory With Three Unearned Runs

The top two teams in the Alaska Baseball League, the Mat-Su Miner (22-14) and the Peninsula Oilers (19-17) faced-off on Wednesday with an opportunity for the Oilers to move to within a single game of the reigning ABL champion and current league leading Miners.

An Oilers error with two outs in the sixth inning, and the Oilers leading 3-2, resulted in three, unearned runs and lead to a 6-3 Miner ABL victory.

 

Miners 6 – Oilers 3

The Peninsula OIlers lead 2-1 in the second on RBI singles by Calvin Farris and Bryce Begell.  By the bottom of the sixth, the Oilers owned a 3-2 advantage with a Chad Bible RBI single breaking a 2-2 tie in the fourth.

With two outs in the sixth, the Miners capitalized on a fielding error by Grant Wood resulting in three, unearned runs and a 5-3 Miners lead.  Mat-Su added a single run in the eighth for the 6-3 ABL win.

Oilers starter Mike Lopez earned a no-decision after five innings, allowing two runs.

 

The Miners improve to 22-14 and extend their lead in the ABL standings to three games over the Peninsula Oilers, who drop to 19-17.

 

Oilers Road Schedule

The Peninsula Oilers continue on the road with a showdown Thursday at Mulcahy Stadium against the Anchorage Bucs with a 7 p.m. scheduled game time.

Friday, the Oilers close their regular season, road schedule at Mat-Su.  Game time scheduled for 6 p.m.
