Oilers Hire GM For Upcoming Baseball Season

The Peninsula Oilers Baseball Club have announced the hiring of a full-time General Manager to oversee the Peninsula Oilers baseball program.

 

Derek Foote joins the Oilers organization and brings a wealth of baseball knowledge both on and off the field; and a family history in baseball that includes three generations of baseball experience.

 

Foote, a past MLB player and operator of baseball facilities and developer of major league talent (see attached resume’) joins the Oilers in their 49th season bringing his extensive baseball knowledge to the Kenai for the Summer of ’23.

 

In addition to baseball operations, Derek will focus on sponsorship sales and marketing to build a revenue stream to maintain and improve Coral Seymour Memorial Ballpark.  He aspires to improve the fan experience at the ballpark with a focus on promoting our games, improving concession offerings and making the most of the beer garden experience.

 

The Alaska Baseball League runs from early June to early August with the Peninsula Oilers playing their home games at Coral Seymour Memorial Park in Kenai.  The ABL consists of the Peninsula Oilers, Anchorage Glacier Pilots, Anchorage Bucs, Mat-Su Miners and the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks.

 

Derek Foote Resume’

Derek’s baseball career started right out of high school. He was drafted in 1994 in the 6th round by the Atlanta Braves. Derek played seven years in the Braves organization and from 1997-1998 he was on the 40-man roster Atlanta Braves Spring Training. Derek then became the owner of three indoors baseball training facilities in North Carolina and developed players for the next level of baseball through his programs and training; 5 MLB draft picks and 50 plus college scholarships were developed at his facility.

Derek grew up in the club houses of numerous MLB teams. His father Barry Foote is a 14-year MLB veteran as a player and coach. Barry Foote spent 24 years in Professional Baseball, he was a 1st round 3rd pick in the 1970 MLB draft to the Montreal Expos out of high school. Barry went on to play for the Phillies, Cubs, and Yankees as a player followed by coaching for the Mets and the White Sox and was the owner of two minor league teams, the Albany Polecats and Carolina Mudcats. (Barry Foote has a hotdog named after him still on the Cubs menu).

Derek and Barry were preceded in their baseball endeavors by his grandfather Amby Foote, who

pitched for the Brooklyn Dodgers and Pittsburgh Pirates from 1948-1954.
