Relief pitchers for both the Fairbanks Goldpanners and the Peninsula Oilers held hitters in-check through the late innings of a 4-3 Panner victory over the Oilers in the final game of the three-game exhibition series.
Fairbanks 4 – Oilers 3
The Goldpanners recorded four runs on five hits through the third inning and the Peninsula Oilers racked-up three runs on a pair of hits in the third inning; which proved to be all of the scoring in a 4-3 Fairbanks victory.
Fairbanks reliever Christopher Tonna held the Oilers to no runs on two hits in four innings of work; as the Oilers left Johnny Olmstead at third base with Ben Grunberg striking out the end the game. The Panners pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts for the game.
Oilers reliever Alec Weigel pitched the final 2.2 innings and allowed no runs.
The Oilers have an off-day on Tuesday and open Alaska Baseball League play on Wednesday in Anchorage against the Anchorage Glacier Pilots at Mulcahy Park. Game time scheduled for 7 p.m. with the Sweeney’s Pre-Game Show beginning at 6:40 on ESPN 1140 AM and streaming live at radioekani.com.
