The Peninsula Oilers open their final two-day, three-game road swing with a doubleheader on Wednesday, July 28 against the Anchorage Glacier Pilots at Mulcahy Park in Anchorage. Game times are scheduled for 5 p.m. and to follow (8 p.m). The Oilers close the regular season on Thursday at Lee Jordan Field against the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks.
The Oilers currently stand at 12-25 on the regular season and will need a sweep of their final three games for a possible berth into the Alaska Baseball League Top of the World Series.
The Mat-Su Miners currently lead the ABL with a 28-10 record. The Oilers are chasing the Anchorage Bucs (15-25).
Top of the World Series
The Anchorage Bucs recorded a 6-5 victory on Tuesday over the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks to possibly clinch the final position for the Top of the World ABL tournament. The Peninsula Oilers, standing at 12-25 in the ABL standings, must win-out and the Bucs must loss their final game for a possible tie for the fourth position in the playoffs.
Note: The Bucs league record currently includes one game too many which at the end of the season would give the Bucs 41 games, instead of 40. If the additional game was a loss, the Bucs are in-line for the playoffs; if a win, the Bucs and Oilers may still tie for the final spot.
