Oilers Offense Produces In Doubleheader Split With Miners

The Peninsula Oilers offense ignited for a pair of four-run innings, one in each of the 7-inning doubleheader games on Tuesday, producing a split with the Mat-Su Miners at Coral Seymour Memorial Park.

 

The Oilers squandered a 5-1 lead in game one as the Miners rallied 6-5 to take game one.  The Oilers scored four runs in the sixth inning in game two for a 5-0 victory.  Garrett Pennington clubbed two, 3-run home runs, one in each game, and recorded six RBI on the day.

Luke Yacinich, Oilers righthander, threw a 7-inning, no-hitter in game two to break a seven-game Oilers losing streak.

 

Miners 6 – Oilers 5

The Peninsula Oilers built a 5-1 lead after five innings; only to allow three runs in the sixth and a pair of seventh inning runs in a 6-5 loss to the Mat-Su Miners.  Garrett Pennington capped the scoring with a three-run home run to stake the Oilers to a 5-1 advantage.  Pennington went 3 for 4 and recorded two runs and three RBI.  Cole Moore posted two hits on three at bats.

Oilers 5 – Miners 0

Luke Yacinich recorded seven strikeouts and faced only 23 batters in a 7-inning no-hitter on the mound for the Peninsula Oilers in a 5-0 victory over the Miners.  Yacinich allowed his first baserunner in the fourth inning with a lone base-on-balls.

Garrett Pennington hit his second three-run home run of the day in the Oilers four-run bottom of the sixth.  Cole Moore went 3 for 3 at the plate and scored two runs.  Henry Noviki went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI.
