Oilers & Panners Draw 3-3 In Baseball Season Opener

With players still arriving in Alaska and rosters thin for opening day, the Peninsula Oilers and Alaska Goldpanners played to a 3-3 tie in the season opener for summer baseball at Growden Park in Fairbanks.

The Peninsula Oilers scored the tying run in the top of the ninth inning with two outs, evening the pre-arranged, nine inning game at 3-3 for a successful season-opener for both programs as teams fill their rosters in early June.

The Oilers opened with a run in the third inning only to allow three runs in the bottom of the inning to the Goldpanners.

In the third inning, Trey Becker pounded a triple and scored on an RBI by Cole Jordan for the game’s first run. The Oilers drew to within a run in the top of the seventh with Noah Henning scoring on a Chase Katafias RBI single.

The Oilers tying run came with two outs in the top of the ninth when Noah Henning scored on a Trey Becker RBI single.  Homer’s Moss Hayes closed the ninth inning recording a strikeout with a runner at third base to end the game.

 

The Oilers and Panners will play a pair of seven-inning games in the opening series with games on Wednesday and Thursday nights scheduled for 6:30 p.m. start times.

Wednesday’s game broadcast will move to KSRM 920AM and will be streamed live at radiokenai.com/ksrm.

 

The Oilers follow-up their Fairbanks swing and begin Alaska Baseball League play Saturday, June 11th with a double-header against the Anchorage Bucs at Mulcahy Park.  The Oilers home opener is set for Wednesday, June 22nd against the Anchorage Glacier Pilots.
