The Peninsula Oilers posted their first Alaska Baseball League victory with a 2-0 win over the Anchorage Bucs as the Oilers pitching staff combined for a one-hitter to shut out the Bucs.
Anchorage loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs on a pair of walks and a hit batter. Jack Putnam, in his first appearance of the season, entered with the bags full and struck out the final Bucs hitter for the save on the mound.
The Oilers plated one run in the fifth inning with Bryan Marsh scoring on a Henry Noviki RBI single. An insurance run came in the top of the eighth with Taylor Johnson reaching on a single and scoring on a passed-ball.
On the mound, Mason Posse earned the win recording five innings and allowing only one hit. Alec Weigel pitched 2 2/3 innings and did not allow a run (left in bottom of ninth after loading the bases). Jack Putnam notched a one, strike out save in the ninth.
The Peninsula Oilers improve to 1-2 through three games in the ABL.
