The Peninsula Oilers have announced the hiring of college baseball Hall of Famer and Alaska Baseball League legion Jim Dietz as the head coach for the Peninsula Oilers beginning immediately.
Coach Dietz brings over four decades of baseball experience to the Oilers including experience in the Alaska Baseball League dating back to 1971. Coach Dietz is a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, a 30-year coach at San Diego State University, and has worked for major league baseball as a talent scout.
In the Alaska League, Dietz coached the Fairbanks Goldpanners to seven NBC World Series appearances and four NBC World Series championships; Dietz also coached the Anchorage Glacier Pilots to a runner-up finish at the NBC World Series. Coach Dietz Alaska League experience extends over four decades.
The Oilers posted the head coach position and received nearly 60 applications from coaches throughout organized baseball. Many top applicants listed Alaska Baseball League coaching experience.
Coach Jim Dietz will lead the Peninsula Oilers into the 2017 ABL season.
